Democritus was an pre-Socratic Greek philosopher who lived between 460 BC and 370 BC. He was the pupil of Leucippus, who is credited with formulating the first atomic theory. Democrtius, on the other hand was credited for coming up with the theory that everything is made up of atoms. He claimed that atoms are indestructible and that they are always moving.
Democritean's atom is an unmoving solid that interacts with other atoms mechanically. In contrast, modern, quantum-mechanical atoms interact using electric and magnetic force fields and are far from motionless.
